Urban Mobility is a key challenge of the 21st century
We provide world-class, cross-domain research in the combination of sensors, circuits, embedded, communication, data analytics, and machine learning in the domain of urban mobility and logistics.
We work vertically integrated and combine our skills and capabilities with clear goals, and an adaptive work-style from agile to V-model with close communication with our project partners.
We address the domains of urban mobility, logistics, and industrial IoT.
Our focus: Mobility in complex, urban areas
Projects
Autonomous Mobility
Urban Mobility is going to change significantly and autonomous vehicles will be introduced into the urban environment. However, based on the experience of the last decade, the challenges to be addressed are enormous.
We support these activities with our knowledge and experience in sensors, machine learning, and automation and a specific focus on very-high availability, robust localization.
Micro Mobility
One key element to allow individual mobility with minimal carbon footprint is the extensive use of low-weight vehicles, including bicycles and E-scooters. However, to make this successful, users need to be protected, and infrastructure has to be setup and maintained properly.
We support this activities in the field of embedded and connected sensor systems for automatic infrastructure assessment, and in the field of mobility data analytics.
Connected Mobility
Connecting road users and infrastructure beyond the „line-of-sight“ is expected to significantly improve traffic efficiency and reduce accidents.
We support related projects with our embedded, connected systems and by implementing server-based functions and by providing data analytics including both cellular (4G, 5G) and ITS-G5 based communication.
Vulnerable Road Users
Moving from a car-only to a multimodal mobility system, vulnerable road users (VRUs) have to be protected.
We support by developing and assessing systems for VRU protection.
Mobility Data Acquisition and Analytics
Data is key to understand the challenges of the mobility system and evaluate measures implemented. It is a prerequisite to develop a functional digital twin.
We support the development with our competencies in fully automized data acquisition and the automated analysis of huge data pools.
Electric (Micro) Mobility
Electrification of the drivetrain is a key technology for resource efficient mobility in complex and dense urban environments. We contribute with validated models for the total power requirements of electric vehicles to optimize longitudinal control.
